The Brand
Motel Rocks started life as a vintage clothing import business - the founder would visit the US, staying in motels, to purchase stock to sell in the UK. Over time, this developed into a shop and then evolved into a unique online range, which became the brand as it is today.
The Project
Motel chose to work with Eastside Co when there was a need for a Shopify Plus Partner to undertake a full redesign and build of their existing Plus site. The business was also operating internationally, so needed ESC’s expertise to relaunch additional stores in 3 other territories: the US, the EU and Australia.
Minimal Layout, Maximum Impact
Our design team understood that it was important to allow the high-quality product and lifestyle photography to lead the site. With that in mind, the concept allowed the images to take centre-stage, acting as the digital space for them to shine. Additional information around products followed this aesthetic, with a clean, minimal layout creating a simple and uncluttered feel.
Built For Clients and Customers
Two essential tenets with every site build are: make the site flexible and easy to use for our client, as well as the people shopping on the site. For Motel, we incorporated the client’s four marketing pillars into the design, and made it easy for the client to update and showcase these pillars as and when required.
For customers navigating the site, UX is always our priority. On this build we introduced more routes to purchase through enhanced signposting from the homepage, paying close attention to the navigation and page hierarchy.
There’s An App For That
We also recommended one of our partners, Venn Apps, to create a new app for Motel in tandem with the relaunched website. This made perfect sense - the app provides customers with immersive and rich brand experiences, such as presenting certain types of content more effectively to users, or leveraging cutting edge technologies to provide customers with new ways to shop.
Ongoing Support
Since the successful launch of the 4 stores, Motel Rocks has continued to work alongside Eastside Co through our Priority Support service which gives them access to our teams for ongoing design and development work, to update and add to the website whenever they need.
For example, ESC worked alongside the Motel creative team to implement new sections to the homepage for further flexibility. We have also retained the ability to upload different images to the desktop and mobile versions of the site.
Working together long-term also allows us to continually review and improve on the UX of the site, continually improving Motel Rocks’ ecommerce presence.
