The Brand
The Sewing Studio is a family-run business, based in Cornwall in the UK. With over 40 years of experience in sewing machines, quilting and haberdashery, they’ve got it all sewn up when it comes to crafting and fabrics. They needed a new, modern ecommerce website that reflected their expertise while showcasing their products and online training courses.
The existing website lived on the Magento platform but the brand wanted to migrate to a new ecommerce solution that would allow increased flexibility, make selling internationally easier, and enable enhanced functionality through third-party integrations. Shopify 2.0 was a perfect fit, and Eastside Co was chosen as the Shopify agency to move The Sewing Studio to the new platform.
What We Did
We redesigned and relaunched the store, replatforming from Magento to Shopify 2.0, with our SEO team managing the migration to make sure there was no negative impact on traffic or search visibility. We took the opportunity to make the store more intuitive, better looking and easier to navigate, and the new site makes it easy for customers to find the products, answers or reference guides that they’re looking for.
Shopify Markets
The relaunched site took advantage of Shopify Markets - a cross-border management tool that helps brands identify, set up, launch, optimise, and manage international markets - all from a single store. With Shopify Markets, it’s possible to create customised online shopping experiences for different customer segments. Markets can be created in Shopify to target specific countries or regions, or countries and regions can be grouped together to simplify expansion efforts.
Apps and Integrations
Shopify has evolved over the years to include lots of native functionality that makes it a comprehensive and easy-to-use platform. It also has a dedicated App Store with over 8,000 integrations and plug-ins that merchants can tap into to create a unique brand experience for their own store. The Sewing Studio, built on Shopify 2.0, also makes use of tech integrations from several third-party partners.
Seamless Integrations
Gorgias was introduced as a customer support function, which saves the merchant time by automatically answering FAQs about existing orders. It also lets customers track their deliveries, shows the returns and delivery policies, and answers FAQs like ‘do you offer samples?’
Filtering functionality was provided via storefront filtering which is part of Shopify 2.0.
Wishlist from Swym was installed on site to reduce cart abandonment by enabling shoppers to save products for later, and let them share their wishlists to love-ones, via email, text message and social media.
A Klarna integration makes the purchase decision easier for higher ticket items and helps increase conversions, by allowing customers to split their payment into installments.
Adding Value and Making It Easy To Buy
The new store has a built-in sewing machine quiz to help customers find their perfect machine - it’s a helpful conversion tool for people looking to buy, asking questions about their objectives and what’s important to them. A data capture form at the end helps the brand grow their email database for follow-up communications.
A subscription pop-up adds value, enticing subscribers with the offer of discounts, free video tutorials, prizes and early notification of new products.
