Brand Overview
Lazy Oaf is an independent British fashion label based in the heart of London, designing womenswear, menswear and accessories featuring bold colours, graphic prints and an abundance of imagination. Illustrator and designer Gemma Shiel is the creative mastermind behind Lazy Oaf, who has grown from humble beginnings operating from a stall in Spitalfields while hand printing t-shirts in her Dad’s garage, to a flagship boutique in London’s Soho, a hugely successful ecommerce store and over 250 global stockists.
Lazy Oaf
The Brief
Lazy Oaf’s store was on Magento but for a number of reasons the decision was made to move away from this platform and migrate to Shopify. There were increasing concerns over the security of Magento, and as a business that was increasing in size, Lazy Oaf had outgrown Magento. It needed something more robust, safe, and flexible.
After considering other ecommerce providers, it was clear that Shopify Plus was the perfect solution. It addressed the security concerns - Shopify is at the forefront of e-commerce security, being the most secure platform available. It was also perfect for a growing business: infinitely scalable with unlimited bandwidth, plus 99.97% uptime.
Lazy Oaf then decided to work with Eastside Co - as the UK’s #1 Shopify agency, we were best placed to design and develop the site, as well as being experienced practitioners when it came to migrating clients from other platforms such as Magento with no fuss.
Our Approach
From a visual point of view, Lazy Oaf wanted a highly creative and animated site that was reflective of its brand: something that would really showcase the unique style that Lazy Oaf is synonymous with.
It was also imperative that the new store had the flexibility to easily add or remove features and content. This would allow the site itself to be as responsive as the business needed it to be when it came to sales, offers, new product lines and messaging.
What we did
Capturing Data
On the product page we installed our ‘Now Back in Stock’ app - this lets customers enter their email address into a field on a product page if their chosen item is out of stock. Customers automatically receive an email or text message to alert them when their item is available; Lazy Oaf can grow its email database of engaged customers, gain the ability to re-target and send further messages to them, and develop an understanding of which products are proving popular so they can manage inventory accordingly.
Converting Traffic
Sticky product descriptions and ‘add to cart’ areas let visitors scroll down the page and get a real feel for the products via the vivid imagery, without moving away from the purchasing area.
Eastside Co implemented a custom wishlist function so customers can quickly and easily create a list of their favourite products and share them with friends on Facebook or Twitter, using social media to organically increase the brand’s reach.
On the collection pages, sticky filters make it easy for visitors to amend their product selections without having to scroll back to the top of the collection page every time. A ‘quick add’ functionality also helps makes the journey to purchase easier, and ‘slider view’ product images help show off the products.
A full-screen zoom really shows off the beautiful imagery on this very visual store.
